Key to success in politics is persuasion. You want to win you best be able to articulate why you alone can fix the mess your opponent is blaming you for. If you go longwinded you’ve already lost. We have the attention span of earthworms.
All those old AM radios in all those junk trucks, vans and Jeeps are choked with winger talk radio shows. You get a steady four-decade diet of anti-government screeds poured into your noggin day in and day out and most of our high school educated citizens willingness to think for themselves will devolve into a pile of brainwashed misinformed authoritarian followers.
All this is only prelude to the asset fire sale that is about to descend upon Washington where our wealthiest will come to fatten their wallets. Look the nation has been shattered and the rich fucks might as well grab their billions in spoils before the low brow looters show up to grab the TV’s. Pillaging will describe the months ahead. Plenty will be ferreted off to secret offshore accounts in Panama.

As I write this bond vigilantes are saddling up preparing to ride. Those involved in this takeover will be feeding at the trough of power while the price of US Treasury Bonds makes their inevitable march higher. Baby— this is a crap moment in history for the money boys to not remember the involuntarily self-destructive moves former United Kingdom Prime minister Liz Truss pulled. In short order, some 50 days the new prime minster became the former prime minister having spiked bond prices the City of London weighed in with a no confidence vote for the Tory Party leader.
I’d like to personally speak to all those who find it perfectly acceptable to vote for a man convicted of sexual assault. No one off, the accused has a long portfolio of former victims all grabbed by their pussy, forced to endure an unwelcome tongue down their throat, finger up their private parts, then smeared after as unlikely alluring enough to have been worthy of such violence. If you are a woman and you voted to support this civilly convicted sexual assaulter you may turn your female bonafide’s in at the table set aside for those turning on their own kind.
The moral minority will be busy learning how in the hell to speak to voters with no more than a high school education. Hifalutin fancy policy talk is the shovel you’ll be using to dig a bigger hole. I’d especially like the pie in the sky left wing of the Democratic Party to put a sock in before you drive more voters into the open arms of our American fascists.
I’d urge we take up a stripped down agenda. I’m talking getting buck naked. Job creation alone is not enough, better pay and benefits are part of the agenda. I wouldn’t focus too much on the benefits packages, too often it uncorks a flurry of anxiety from small business owners who are just getting by and utterly opposed to being hit with new regulations. Maternity leave and affordable daycare are two worries our small business owners won’t support. Those of us that are Democrats need to get our heads screwed on right. A reasonable policy proposal that hits a larger corporation but won’t fly if it hits a local small business too is stupid politics.
Our post-pandemic global economy was hit hard by inflation. Political leaders across the world have been tossed out by voters, the US is no exception. Even as the US economy is seen as the world’s best, that’s not how the working poor in our country sees it, and by working poor I’m talking most of our citizens. If you make between $60 to $100K you are in the middle, that’s no easy thing to achieve these days. Three of four Americans earn less than $100K. Prospects for a young high school educated man suck. Most of the productivity gains have been captured by the capitalists, labor has been on a 5 decade long losing streak, and the social unrest that has resulted may go a long way toward explaining much of the stinking authoritarian mess that these shortcomings have wrought.
In the near term I’m worried no-fault divorce, birth control and the morning after pill are all about to be outlawed. Republicans are hellbent on tightening their control over women. One thing for sure is that we will not take a backseat to any other women oppressing nations. You only need look at the authoritarian playbook to see what’s coming and limiting a woman’s human rights is high on that list.
You are not alone. I walk in a world where more than half of all those that voted did so in support of a 78 year old man visibly showing signs of sharp age related decline. We are all hit with much the same kinds of infirmities in old age. Hearing goes, eyes stop working right, thinking slows, speaking skills decline, and we just flat out get tired. Forget mental illness the risk of age related cognitive decline is very much in play right now.
I like the company I am in as I pick up my hiking stick and embark upon this long journey into and back from the wastelands. We are in trouble, that is no longer in doubt—
